The Hindu epic Mahabharata has eighteen sections or parvas, involves eighteen armies and a war lasting eighteen days. The Hebrew word for 'living' is חי  (chai) who's numerical value is eighteen - donations and gifts are often given in multiples of 18 as a blessing for long life. In China the eighteenth floor of a building is often the most expensive as the word for eighteen is normally 十八 (shí bā), but it can also be read as 幺八 (yāo bā), which sounds like 要发 (yào fā), meaning 'to prosper'. But in Northern China, eighteenth floors are avoided as Chinese myth dictates that hell has eighteen levels and you can't return from hell. Hangar 18 is a song from Megadeth's 1990 album Rust in Peace. Quite an interesting number.
