We bought these small brasses from some young boys (aged 10 but looked about 7) at Angor Wat, Cambodia. They went to school in the morning and then spent the afternoon selling trinkets to tourists. Their hook was that they knew the capital city of every country and if they got them all right, the deal was you bought from them. They didn't get a single one wrong.

No, it's not really marzipan, but the white flesh of this nectarine reminds me of just that. In Hoogvliet in Holland there used to be a bakery shop that specialised in marzipan in all shapes. They'd change their window display regularly, sometimes the window looked like a greengrocers, with all kinds of fruit and veg made from marzipan. Other times it was done like a butcher's shop window and you could buy sausages and slices of meat and eggs - all marzipan. It looked amazing and tasted even better.

I went to a colleague's desk this afternoon and realised that mine isn't as bad as I thought!

This evening I took part in a charity fashion show in support of the Queen Alexandra Hospital Home just down the road. It was really good fun and I met a good bunch of people. As for the modelling, it's not something you get the chance to do very often and having never done it before, I had to sieze the opportunity when it arose. And walking and turning and smiling at the same time is not as easy as it looks!

I walk past this building site on the way to work; there's no building there now (think it used to be a rest home in more recent years) and all that's left of what was probably an impressive house is this gate.
